With a desire for locally designed and made furniture,
Hames Sharley engaged Remington Matters to provide a suite of furniture and custom joinery for global consulting firm Arup’s Perth office.
Arup follows the
Living Building Challenge across all new office fit-outs in Australia and New Zealand, a rigorous certification programme from the International Living Future Institute that encourages a regenerative approach to building design, pushing projects to achieve international best-practice standards for sustainability.
To meet these ambitious requirements, Remington Matters undertook detailed research into materials, their supply chains and the lifecycles of offcuts and waste, carefully selecting materials, adhesives, finishes and construction methods to minimise environmental impact.
The concierge desks feature a slatted timber base with a solid timber top, crafted from storm-felled Marri and Blackbutt sourced from WA’s south west. Concealed castors allow the units to be moved during office functions. Other pieces include Burton Fleek boardroom tables with hot-dipped galvanised legs and solid Marri timber table tops, as well as folding Twin Pole tables, MF benches, custom banquette seating and hand-carved limestone side tables in the café and informal meeting areas.
The resulting furniture and joinery showcases Remington Matters’ ability to meet the project’s rigorous sustainability requirements alongside durability and aesthetics.
