Scope

We collaborated with Lyons Architects and Multiplex Construction to deliver 320 pieces of handmade furniture for the sustainably driven education center that is Boola Katitjin. The furniture package included tables, seating, and collaborative furniture. All and all we machined over 23 cubic meters of Australian Hardwoods, cut and welded kilometers of steel extrusion, and applied hundreds of liters of natural oil. Boola Katitjin has won a plethora of awards, many of which attest to the sustainability focus enshrined within the project. We commend all involved on what is an incredible architectural feat.

The upholstered seat pads mimic the profile of the timber whilst the leg system integrates visually with the mass timber portal frames that make up the structure of the building.

Durability was key when choosing the materials for the more exposed exterior spaces, heavy gauge steel with exterior powdercoat and slatted timber inserts were used to ensure a long lasting product that won’t require replacing for years to come. The natural timber top surface on the tables and seating in this space speak mass timber structure of the building as well as the surrounding vegetation.

Custom designed and engineered, the solid black butt breeze way tables and benches offer an inspiring place for students to work communally or take a well deserved break for lunch.
